Before June 6 at Honey in Minneapolis, I can't remember the last time I did something that made me visibly shake. My hands were trembling something fierce until I was about 3 records into my first-ever solo mix in front of actual people; normally I DJ with my husband, Ian, who has been mixing since he was in his late teens.I may have been writing about DJs since the late 90s, but I certainly have only recently become crossfader adept.Local DJ Bryan Gerrard was nice enough to offer me a spot opening for Women On Wax founder DJ Minx, a true D-town powerhouse. It was an amazing time and I got a lot of great compliments about "mixing genres" hip hop, 80's and 90's with house music.Now if only next time I can shake those nerves!
